Compress PDF

Shrink a PDF to fit email attachments and upload limits. Keep the text layer with lossless re-packing, or use strong mode on scanned documents for the biggest savings - all locally.

Compressed locally in your browser - never uploaded

How it works

  1. Drop your PDF

Open any PDF - it's read locally and its size and page count are shown immediately.

  2. Pick a mode

'Lossless' re-packs the file while keeping text selectable. 'Strong' re-renders pages as compact JPEGs - ideal for scans and big image-heavy files.

  3. Compare and download

See the exact before/after sizes. If the result isn't smaller, we hand your original back untouched.

FAQ

How much smaller will my PDF get?
It depends on the content. Lossless re-packing typically saves 5-30%. Strong mode on scanned documents often saves 60-90%, because a 300 DPI scan is mostly image data that compresses well at 100-150 DPI JPEG.
Will 'Strong' mode hurt readability?
At 150 DPI / 65% quality, pages look nearly identical on screen and print well on paper. The trade-offs: text is no longer selectable/searchable and zooming in reveals JPEG softness. Keep the original if you need archiving-grade fidelity.
Why did I get my original file back?
Some PDFs are already optimally packed. If our output would be larger than your file, we return the original and say so - compressing should never make things worse.
Is my document uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything is computed in your browser with JavaScript. Confidential financial, medical or legal files stay on your device.
