PDF to Text

Pull every word out of a PDF - copy it to your clipboard or download a clean .txt file. Extraction runs locally with the same engine Firefox uses to display PDFs.

Extracted locally - works on digital PDFs (scans need OCR, coming soon)

How it works

  1. Drop in a PDF

Extraction starts automatically - each page's text layer is read in order.

  2. Review the text

Everything appears in one view, separated by page markers so you know where each block came from.

  3. Copy or download

Grab the whole thing to your clipboard, or save it as a UTF-8 .txt file.

FAQ

Why did I get little or no text back?
Scanned PDFs are just photos of pages - there's no text layer to extract. Those need OCR (optical character recognition); our Image-to-Text tool with multi-language OCR is on the roadmap. For now, this tool works perfectly on digitally-created PDFs like exports from Word or web pages.
Is the layout preserved?
Extraction keeps reading order, words and line breaks, but not fonts, columns or tables as visual layout. If you need the exact layout, use PDF to JPG instead.
Is my document uploaded?
No - extraction happens entirely in your browser. Contracts, reports and confidential files stay on your device.
