Protect PDF
Lock a PDF with a password using standard PDF encryption - then share it knowing only people with the password can open it. Encryption happens on your device, so even we never see the file.

Encrypted locally - the only truly private way to lock a file
-
Use 8+ characters with a mix of letters, numbers and symbols for a strong password.
How it works
Drop your PDF
The file is read locally - nothing is sent anywhere.
Choose a password
The open password is what people type to read the file. The optional owner password controls future editing rights.
Encrypt & download
We apply RC4 128-bit PDF-standard encryption, then verify the result opens correctly with your password before it downloads.
FAQ
How strong is the protection?
We use RC4 128-bit PDF-standard encryption - the same level many commercial 'Protect PDF' tools offer. It keeps casual readers out completely. For nation-state-grade secrecy, prefer AES-256 tools; for everyday sharing of contracts, statements and IDs, RC4-128 is practical and universally supported by every PDF viewer.
Why is this more private than other protect tools?
Most websites encrypt on their server - meaning your sensitive document crosses the internet and passes through someone else's hands before and after locking. Here, encryption runs in your browser tab: the unprotected file never leaves your device at all.
What if I forget the password?
There is no backdoor - by design. The encrypted file can only be opened with the password, so store it safely. We never see or keep a copy of anything.
Can recipients open it in any PDF app?
Yes. The output uses the standard PDF security handler, so Acrobat, Preview, Chrome, Firefox, and mobile readers will all prompt for the password normally.
